In writing this I can’t help but be stereotypical and not shy away from the popularly held societal beliefs that women are the ones that worry about looks, however I would be very wrong in making that assumption. Check out this video Brotox Video Link. Men’s worries about maintaining their youthful appearance and vigor are definitely making waves according to the plastic surgery spike seen in the medical community as of late. The claim is that numbers for men seeking out procedures to curtail their aesthetic “imperfections” are on the rise. I’m always very curious as to how it is that we define beauty in society. The small mental notes or tabs in my brain keep stacking up every time I spot an image of the “ideal man” whether it’s online or on magazine shelves or commercials on TV and it makes me wonder as to how we developed into picking this archetype to begin with. I’ve written about this topic before with the focus being on the female, but are men really changing their tune and becoming more aware of personal appearance? Have we always been? When I think of my both sets of grandfathers they have proudly donned the grays and facial changes that give the body “character.”Are we entering into a socially defining time against old age? Many people have shed light on how we hate to think of death or the reminder of its presence and yes, I’m speaking in societal terms; but are the days of appreciating the Sean Connerys’ and Richard Gears’ reaching an end? I guess body hair is out for now as well, at least according to pop culture and what permeates on the images of the media venues I’ve covered. Basically, what is the male of tomorrow going to look like or worry about, man bags or I’m sorry, satchels?

I think men should look natural as they are. Is more attractive, more sensitive to the world.
It’s been theorized that the gay community has dictated the new man. In the 80′s it was gay men who avoided the stigma of AIDS by becoming muscle men. Then the straight men became muscle men. Then when the gay men slimmed down and went hairless the straight men did too. This is where metrosexuals came in. Now that hairy guys are back in style for gay men I foresee hair coming back for straight men. But since gay is about young and fit … the straight men will continue to obsess about their youthful looks until the gays change. The correlation can be tracked over decades and I think it’s solid now to follow that logic. The man of tomorrow will likely be tall, skinny, nerdy, metrosexual, botoxed, face lifted, wearing man makeup, and carry a purse. I know it’s labeled satchel but it’s a purse lets be honest. Basically the days of the “dandy” as they were called is back.
